Social Worker / Founder
Gemma is the founder of Drift Counselling & Consultancy, with over 18years of experience working with children, young people, families, adults and carers in various Health and Family Services roles. Gemma is an Accredited Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and an approved counsellor with the NSW Victim Services Support Scheme.
Gemma has completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Circle of Security Program, Gottman Couples Therapy and Safe & Together Model. Gemma promotes her alignment with Narrative therapy, Attachment-focused interventions, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy & Acceptance & Commitment therapy and Response-Based Practice Principles.
Gemma draws on her experience and knowledge of working with people who have experienced grief & loss, adversity and trauma, developmental challenges, family and relationship difficulties and mental health concerns - supporting clients across the lifecycle. Gemma holds a strong passion for human rights and social justice.
Gemma is committed to lifelong learning and has enjoyed the opportunity of teaching Social Work students at the University of Newcastle and providing Professional Supervision and mentoring to health practitioners and social work students.
Gemma has been described as a caring, humble and compassionate counsellor.
* Bachelor of Social Work (Honours Class II Division 2) at the University of Newcastle in 2011.
* Graduate Certificate in Integrated Violence, Abuse & Neglect Interventions (10826NAT) at the Education Centre Against Violence, NSW Health in 2022
* Cert. IV in Community Services at TAFE NSW in 2006
* Level 2 Clinical training Gottman method couples therapy at the Gottman Institute in 2024
* Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) training in 2025
